Parent Testimonials

"Mrs. Castillo is one of the most amazing teachers my son has had. She doesn't try to put him in a box and make him "fit" a certain category. She took time to get to know his strengths and weakness using them both to help maximize his learning. While not avoiding the weaknesses, she strengthened them so they would not hold him back."
- 2nd grade parent

"Some how Mrs. Castillo keeps the learning fun, yet at the same time my child doesn't get away with goofing off or not giving their best."
-Middle School parent

"I love that Jilena gives me a real evaluation of where my daughter is at; what she struggles with and what she's good at. I love that she has a vision of what my daughter can do in the future, when she maximizes her potential."
- 4th grade parent

"My son is eager to go to lessons and looks forward to his lessons with Mrs. Castillo."
- Kindergarten parent

"Mrs. Castillo is the type of teacher that leaves a  mark of love and care on a kid's heart forever. "
- High school parent

"Mrs. Castillo does an amazing job at getting to know each child's needs and meeting them where they are. She sets her expectations right above where they are at so the child is pushed but not overwhelmed. She is receptive to feedback and puts forth great effort to work with parents."
- 1st grade RAD parent

FAQs

How will I be billed?
Sessions are billed at the beginning of each month before sessions take place, as they are scheduled, through the online calendar. Automatic payments and credit card payment are available, for an added $5 processing fee. It is encouraged to set up a payment with your bank or mail a check each month. Email billing reminders are sent one week before you are charged.

Are payment plans available?
Payment plans available upon request.

Are there any discount or referral rewards?
I am honored if you share your experiences with others. If some one books a monthly session you will receive 1 free sessions value at the beginning of their second month. Limited discount rates available for low income families. Please inquire if you are in need of this type of support.

What is your cancellation and reschedule policy?
When an appointment is scheduled, that time has been set aside for your student and when it is missed, that time cannot be used for another student. A minimum of 24 hours notice is required in the event that you need to cancel or reschedule your session. This allows for other students to be scheduled into that session. Cancelled sessions can be rescheduled within the month of the original session date, free of charge. Sessions that are not rescheduled during this time will not be refunded.  If you miss a session without contacting me within the required time, this is considered a missed session, and will be charged for the session. After 2 missed sessions, any future regular sessions will be automatically canceled without refund.

What is my student is sick?
If illness or injury prevents your student from making their session, please let me know as soon as possible. Due to covid any in-person sessions will move to online. Online sessions can be modified for your students abilities. Please do not cancel if your student could watch a TV and talk some. Interruptions in the pattern of learning slows progress being made and can take extra time to regain ground.

What if we are late to our session?
If a student is more than 10 minutes late for a session, without prior notice,  I will consider this a missed session and you will be charged for the session.

What if my student is out of town during a scheduled tutoring session?
Please let me know in advance that you will be out of town or unavailable for multiple sessions in an upcoming month. You can adjust that in your schedule on my calendar when scheduling that month. Please NOTE:  The monthly slots are scheduled on my calendar as open and may no longer become available.

What if I want to end services before I have used up the sessions I purchased?
If you are discontinuing tutoring before your purchased sessions run out, a 50% refund will be given on unused services.

How do virtual tutoring sessions work?
You will need an internet connection and a computer or tablet to participate. I use a video conference program and a digital whiteboard to teach and display lessons and worksheets. If preferred, I will email worksheets and extended practice pages for you to print out on your end for your student to complete by hand.

What if technical difficulties prevent me from having a successful tutoring session?
Due to the nature of online tutoring, technology malfunction is to be occasionally expected. If technical difficulties prevent your session from happening, we will reschedule for a makeup session at a later date. If  technology issues persist we may need a phone conference to problem solve before scheduling more sessions.

Student behavior and direction?
Students are expected to show respect and engage in the entire lesson. I work to keep the lesson active and fun. if your student is struggling with the pace or style of the lesson feedback is welcome and requested. I am here to partner with you. Students will be reminded of expectations and goals of learning, but please work with your student that they want to be there or discuss your concerns during the information call. If a student is in need of direction, redirection and a shift in learning will take place. Second time students will be corrected to appropriate behavior. If the off task or distracting behavior continues students will be warned and the session may end early. If session is discontinued for any reason the parent will be contacted and it will be a missed session with no reschedule or refund. If 2 or more sessions are canceled for student behavior no further sessions can be scheduled until a parent meeting is called.
